Hyderabad: Deputy Commissioner of Police AR Umamaheswara Sarma was recently conferred an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer rank. His daughter Sindhu Sarma is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of 2014 batch. But on Sunday, Umamaheswara saluted daughter Sindhu at the Pragati Nivedhana Sabha, a mega rally of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) convened by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Ranga Reddy district. This is because Sindhu is the Superintendent of Police of Jagtiyal district of Telangana, an officer of higher rank as that of her father.
Umamaheswara started his police service three decades ago, in 1985. He was a sub-inspector and was recently made an IPS officer in Malkajgiri area under Rachakonda police commissionerate in Hyderabad.
When the duo came face-to-face at the public meeting, Umamaheswara saluted Sindhu.
“She is my senior officer. When I see her, I salute her. We do our respective duties and don’t discuss this, but at home, we are just like any father and daughter,” said Umamaheswara to IANS. “This is the first time we have come together while doing our duties. I am fortunate to work with her," he further added.
Sindhu was looking after women’s security at the public meeting and Umamaheswara was in-charge of security arrangements at the entry points.
