The opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala alleged that the Left government, the RSS and the BJP are trying to sabotage the Sabarimala pilgrimage. The opposition alleged that the government was using the police force to control the devotees at the famous shrine.

Thiruvananthapuram: On the third day of the Assembly session in Kerala on Thursday, the opposition staged a protest over the Sabarimala issue. The opposition sought to discuss the lack of facilities at Sabarimala, on November 29.

The Kerala Assembly speaker P Sreeramakrishnan adjourned the house as the opposition created a ruckus. The members of the opposition also protested outside the Assembly in Thiruvananthapuram.

The leader of the opposition, Ramesh Chennithala alleged that the Left government, the RSS and the BJP are trying to subvert Sabarimala pilgrimage.

During the Assembly session, the opposition members had staged a protest in the well of the House when the question-answer session started. But, the speaker clarified that such objections could not be allowed everyday as the Assembly has to complete scheduled procedures.

This resulted in a dispute between the speaker and the members of the opposition. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that they had discussed the Sabarimala issue in detail on Wednesday.

However, the opposition did not agree to this and the Assembly was adjourned after just 20 minutes into the session.

The opposition alleged that the government is controlling the devotees through the police force and wanted them not to visit Sabarimala. Chennithala said Section 144 should be withdrawn or else they would intensify protests.

On November 28, Chennithala had alleged that the chief minister spoke for 45 minutes, which is unusual and also said that this is contrary to the Assembly procedures. Vijayan replied that he spoke for 45 minutes because of his health condition.

Chennithala hit back at Vijayan by saying that Assembly is not the place to talk about the chief minister’s health. Vijayan had replied at a stretch, to all questions related to Kerala floods. This led to arguments from the opposition and Chennithala alleged that Vijayan’s long speech violated other members’ rights.
