Noida: Following the initial probe in the Paytm extortion case, police have dug out the data that were used by the accused to blackmail CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma. Earlier, it was known that the data included crucial information that could, if made public, affect the company's business.

Station house officer of Noida Sector 20 thana Manoj Pant said it's 128 GB of total data. In a hard copy, that would take up over 1,000 pages.

What are they?

  • Passwords
  • Encrypted emails
  • PIN of Paytm accounts
  • Cash cards
  • Business model
  • New plans
  • Financial dealings

“We are sifting through the data with the help of cyber cell officers. The data contained important passwords, among other things," said Gautam Budh Nagar SSP AjayPal Sharma, according to reports.

The police are also trying to make sure if customers’ details are included in the data.

However, the company in a statement to the media said that customers’ personal details were protected.

“All our consumer data is protected with the highest and most impenetrable levels of security. At this point, the law enforcement authorities are investigating this matter and we would like to respect the police investigation, and not comment further until the results of such investigation are known,” Paytm statement read.

Sharma’s long-time secretary Sonia Dhawan, her husband Roopak Jain and an employee of Paytm Devendra Kumar have been arrested. Another accused is still at large.
