New Delhi: Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh said that Pakistan was targeting Indian youth by smuggling drugs into the country and along with China had a long-term strategy to “destroy” the Indian military system.

"Two-thirds of regiments in the Indian Army are from the northern belt. If you do not have healthy youngsters there, how will Indian Army hire the men? Pakistan and China are looking at the long-term strategy to destroy Indian military system," Singh said on Saturday at the 16th HT Leadership Summit here.

According to Singh, Pakistan wanted to “demolish” the youth along the border in Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, for its own security by pushing drugs into India.

He mentioned that 500kg of heroin was seized from Punjab in the last one year besides 80kg from Uri in Jammu and Kashmir.

The chief minister questioned Pakistan’s intention of pushing drugs into Amritsar and added if they wanted to sell then do it in Mumbai or Delhi where it would be “lucrative”.

"What is the intention of Pakistan? Three weeks ago, 300kg came to Mandvi port. If you want to sell it, then sell it in Mumbai or Delhi. It is more lucrative. Why is Amritsar your target?" asked Singh.

Punjab has been hit by drug menace. However, according to Singh, the current government has set up a special task force to deal with the problem. It has increased the price of heroin by more than four times.

"We have set up a special task force to deal with drugs. And it seems to be working," he said.
