The party supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee cried foul and accused the BJP of imposing "super emergency" in the country
A day after three Assam cops were allegedly assaulted by TMC leaders, including Mahua Moitra, inside Silchar airport, the ruling party in Bengal has announced it will observe August 4-5 as Black Day.
Party supporters today blocked rail and road traffic in pockets of Kolkata and its suburban areas to protest against the detention of TMC MPs and MLAs at Silchar airport for violating section 144 of the CrPC.
People faced inconvenience in Sealdah railway station this morning when TMC supporters blocked the tracks at Dhubulia and Guma stations. Five trains were delayed due to the protest.
An eight-member TMC delegation, which reached Silchar yesterday to assess the situation in Assam in the wake of publication of National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft, was not allowed to leave the airport.
The party supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee cried foul and accused the BJP of imposing "super emergency" in the country.
Banerjee said, "The delegation was full of respectable members. The way police indulged in atrocities is condemnable. This shows their (BJP) frustration. This is the beginning of their end".
However, BJP MP Babul Supriyo told MyNation that the lady police personnel requested Mahua Moitra with folded hands to calm down, but the TMC members assaulted the cops.
The Black Day is coming at a time when the BJP and TMC have locked horns over power control of Bengal.
BJP president Amit Shah is expected to address a massive rally in the heart of Kolkata on August 11. State BJP in charge Kailash Vijayvargiya, national secretary Rahul Sinha and key face of BJP in the state Mukul Roy are in a huddle to up the ante in Bengal.
