Hyderabad: While we come across many pet animals celebrating their birthday by cutting a cake, here, a giant and old majestic elephant Rani of the Nehru zoo celebrated her 80th birthday in the presence of zoo officials on Saturday (October 6).
A photo of the elephant cutting the plum cake which made the rounds on social media has caught the attention of the audience, who began praising the zoo officials for celebrating the event.
Rani's 80th birthday has also been celebrated as Nehru Zoological Park's 55th-anniversary. According to the public relations officer, Anif, the elephant was gifted to the zoo by the then Nizam of Hyderabad when the zoo was launched in 1963.
While the picture of Rani cutting the cake is now going viral on social media, Anif explained that it was not the first time the zoo is celebrating the animal’s birthday.
Rani was decorated with huge garlands, and shiny ribbons tied to her legs. Since Rani does not eat any savouries, the zoo officials provided cartloads of bananas, jaggeries and coconuts as they are her favourite food.
On this occasion, the authorities announced that new toy trains would be introduced in the zoo and the zoo’s lonely giraffe will be soon getting the company of two more giraffes, who are going to be brought from the Kolkata zoo.
