New Delhi: The Centre has revised the Strategic Policy Group (SPG) that assists the National Security Council in advising the Prime Minister on matters of national security and strategic interests. The Narendra Modi government has made Ajit Doval the most powerful national security advisor (NSA) ever in the country.
The group will now be headed by NSA Doval as he replaces the Cabinet Secretary as its head who was till now the head of the Special Protection Group (SPG).
The group will now be additionally responsible for inter-ministerial coordination and integration of relevant inputs for the formulation of national security policies.
The NSA will convene the policy group's meetings and the cabinet secretary will coordinate the execution of decisions taken.
The group includes the NITI Aayog; its chairman will be in the group as a member. The three service chiefs, the DRDO chief, secretaries of home, defence and finance along with the RBI governor are part of the group, too.
