Meerut: A video has emerged from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh where a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor has been seen thrashing a police officer in uniform.The incident took place on Friday evening in the Kankarkheda area of Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh.
The BJP leader was identified as Manish Kumar and was seen slapping a sub-inspector multiple times and hurling abuses at him. Sources said the police officer had come to the BJP leader's restaurant with a woman lawyer. The woman was reportedly involved in an altercation with a waiter for not serving her meal on time.
Workers at the restaurant said that the woman tried threatening the staff with the police officer’s gun.
The BJP leader caught the police officer's neck and started slapping him. The video shows that the cop was slapped five times before he fell over. The BJP leader has been arrested.
A complaint has been filed against the BJP councillor based on the woman's statement. He has been booked under sections 395 (punishment for dacoity) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code.
