The comment by Human Rights Commission member P Mohandas is expected to boost the morale of the harangued devotees of Lord Ayyappa to whom BJP president Amit Shah has extended moral support too
Pamba: Kerala human rights commission member P Mohandas said that prohibitory orders should not be imposed at Sannidhanam. In a press meet, he said that media's Sabarimala narrative is fake.
“We have asked for an explanation from the state government and the director general of police regarding the prohibitory orders. We’ll discuss with the inspector general the restrictions imposed. There is no trouble at the Sannidhanam, contrary to what is reported by the media. None of the pilgrims complained about any kind of inconvenience,” he said.
Regarding women's entry into Sabarimala, Mohandas clarified that the human rights commission would not take up any case suo motu. "But if anyone files a complaint, it will be considered," he said.
Those who created trouble at Sannidhanam are not pure devotees, Mohandas said. The real devotees, he said, would not create trouble. He also said that none of the pilgrims complained.
Today, BJP president Amit Shah slammed Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan over the state government's stand on the Sabarimala issue. In a series of Tweets, Shah said that the state government was treating Ayyappa devotees like Gulag prisoners, invoking from history Soviet ruler Joseph Stalin's Adolf Hitler-like concentration camps.
If Pinarayi Vijayan thinks he can rise against people’s movement to preserve Sabarimala by arresting K Surendran, our Thrissur District President and 6 others, then he is mistaken. We stand firmly with every Ayyappa devotee, who holds the Sabarimala tradition close to his heart.
— Amit Shah (@AmitShah)If several reports of flushing resting places for devotees and them having to spend nights next to pig droppings & dustbin are true, then Pinarayi Vijayan must realize that he can’t treat Ayyappa devotees like inmates of Gulag. We won't let LDF crush people's faith with impunity.
— Amit Shah (@AmitShah)The way Pinarayi Vijayan’s govt is handling the sensitive issue of Sabarimala is disappointing. Kerala police is treating young girls, mothers and aged inhumanly, forcing them to take the arduous pilgrimage, without even basic facilities like food, water, shelter & clean toilets.

Kerala Police are treating young girls, mothers and senior citizens inhumanly, Shah added, forcing them to undertake the arduous pilgrimage without even basic facilities like food, water, shelter and clean toilets.
Earlier, the Kerala high court had mocked the Pinarayi Vijayan government too over police excesses at the Sabarimala shrine, saying that the police officers should be in the barracks rather than attack pilgrims.
