MBA student lynched in Manipur on suspicion of being bike thief

Guwahati: In a horrific case of mob lynching, a 26-year-old MBA student was killed on suspicion of being a bike thief.

The incident happened at Tharoijam Awang Leikai in Lamsgang Assembly constituency in Manipur’s Imphal East district on September 13.

According to reports, the victim identified as Farooq Ahmed Khan, an MBA student from Lilong Haoreibi area in Thoubal district was attacked by a mob. The mob had torched the car in which the student was travelling.

Two others with the victim managed to escape from the area. Locals alleged that the youths were caught by the villagers stealing a two-wheeler.

Meanwhile, police had arrested five people in connection with the incident. Sources say that the police are on the lookout for another 13.

Manipur Police have registered an FIR under section 302, 117 and 34 of IPC.
