Kolar: A man from Malur in Karnataka allegedly killed a 16-year-old girl for resisting his sexual advances. He has been arrested on charges of rape attempt and murder.
The accused is identified as Ranjith, who was working as a mason at a construction site near the victim's house.
It is said that Ranjith was forcing the victim to speak to him. The girl was Class 10 student in a school in Malur.
Ranjith started following the victim every day when she was going to and returning from school.
He was stalking her and then started forcing her to like him. Then on 1 August, when she was returning from school, he stopped her and allegedly forced her to make love to him.
When she started shouting for help, he killed her.
Then Ranjith went to Malur railway station and had slept there.
The victim's parents grew suspicious and informed the police about the man who was harassing her. On the basis of the sketches drawn, the man was traced and arrested at the railway station.
According to reports, he has confessed to the crime and has been produced before the court today (3 August).
Following the murder of the victim, the students held a mass protest and demanded a probe.
They had even started a campaign on social media with the hashtag #needjustice.
