Eight men allegedly gang-raped an eight months pregnant woman in Sangli, Maharashtra.
Eight men in Sangli, Maharashtra allegedly gang-raped an eight months pregnant woman from Satara. The woman, along with her husband, had gone to Turchi Phata for a business conference.
The police said that the hotelier and his wife were on the lookout to hire a few members as staff for their hotel business.
One of the accused, Mukund Mane, called the hotelier (husband) to Turchi Phata by saying that he knew someone who would be willing to take up the work and requested him to carry Rs. 20,000 to pay as an advance to them.
Agreeing to Mane, the two reached the designated spot. Mane and his men started beating the couple with pipes and sticks, robbed them of their cash and gold ornaments and later tied the man and locked him inside his vehicle. The group then allegedly gang-raped the woman.
The attackers also warned them on informing the police claiming that they were locally very powerful people and the couple's pleas would fall on deaf ears.
The two later managed to reach Tasgaon police station and filed a complaint against the eight. The woman reportedly named four of the eight accused, Mukund Mane, Javed Khan, Sagar, and Vinod in her complaint.
According to sources, the Maharashtra State Commission for Women Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the Sangli Superintendent of Police to subjectively look into the case and submit a detailed report on this matter.
