Pawan Kalyan had earlier claimed that Janasena would contest 23 Assembly seats and 3 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana. He now backed out of Telangana polls due to ‘time constraints’.
Hyderabad: The Jenasena party led by actor-politician Pawan Kalyan declared that his party will not be contesting at the Tenlangana Assembly elections due to time lapse. The statement was released on Monday by Kalyan.
In the statement, Kalyan said that the party will not be able to contest as the time available for preparations is limited and difficult. However, the party is gearing up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, next year. The decision was announced after a meeting with party members on Monday, which was also the last day for filing nominations for the Assembly elections.
The party’s earlier decision was to contest 23 Assembly seats and 3 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana. This decision was changed as the TRS chief dissolved the Assembly, leading to the early declaration of elections.
Pawan Kalyan on Monday disclosed to the media that if the elections were as per the earlier schedule - April 2019 - then the party would have had no issues in participating. However, given the current situation, it is difficult and thus after consultation with other members, the party has decided to compete in Lok Sabha elections, Pawan Kalyan said.
Prior to this announcement by Jenasena, YSR Congress had announced its complete list of candidates on Sunday. YSR Congress had earlier stated that they would be avoiding these elections and focusing on General elections at their base in Andhra Pradesh.
