The release of the ‘most wanted' list by the NIA has brought out alarming facts of the emergence of more Maoists from Telangana and Andhra and their spread in several other states.
Telangana/Andhra Pradesh: The ‘most wanted' list has been recently revealed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). 258 names and out of them several areof militant corps - CPI(Maoist)- charged for their scuffle against the Indian government, armed assaults and involvement in illegal activities.
The lists point out the alarming fact of the emergence of the Maoists leaders from Telugu soil and their presence in several other states. According to reports, Andhra and Telangana have one of the colossal units of the bootlegged organisations in the country. Many of the Maoists from the area are even wanted with a Rs 10 to Rs 15 lakh reward on them.
Ganapathy (69), a science graduate from Birpur in Telangana's Karimnagar, aka Muppala Laxman Rao, or Raji Reddy has a bounty of Rs 15 lakh on his head. He reportedly worked as a school teacher before he joined the People’s War Group (PWG) with Kondapalli Seetharamaiah and Nalla Adireddy’s influence. He is now the CPI(Maoist) party's general secretary.
An obscure name in the NIA list, Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavaraj, is said to be the potential successor to the general secretary post.
The party has 3 pivotal factions, the central committee (CC), the polit bureau (PB), and the central military commission (CMC). Ganapathy heads the CC and PB, whilst Nambala Keshava Rao aka Gaganna heads the military faction, and he is from Andhra’s Srikakulam district. As per sources, he has a Rs 10 lakh bounty on him and also had taken charge of the party considering Ganapathy’s health issues.
Tippiri Tirupati alias Deoji from Karimnagar district has a bounty of Rs 10 lakh and is a member of the Maoist party's central committee. As per sources, he was a part of the CC meeting of the Dandakaranya special zonal committee in 2009, where steps were taken to start the Buniyadi Communist Training School (BCTS) – a military training centre for new recruits.
Karimnagar is known for bringing forth top Maoist leaders, including Ganapathy, Nalla Adireddy and Seelam Naresh - general secretary and two CC members, who were killed in an encounter in 1999 respectively.
The next name for the NIA is Akkiraju Hargopal, ideologue and CC member, hailing from Rentachintala in Andhra Pradesh and popularly known as RK. He is said to have gotten away from Odisha's Ramguda encounter in October 2016, where his son, 25-year-old Munna, was executed. In February this year, RK allegedly figured out how to escape from a Maoist camp that was busted by AP greyhounds and special operation groups of Odisha police.
Other names from Andhra and Telangana in the NIA list include, Garjala Ravi, secretary of the Andhra-Odisha border (AOB) special zonal committee, Madhavi (Warangal district), Paka Hanumanthu (Nalgonda district), Dubasi Shankar (Medak district), Jalamuru Venkateswarlu and Jalumuri Srinubabu (East Godavari), Boddu Kundanalu and Deve Podiyami (Srikakulam), etc.
Araku MLA Kidari Someshwar Rao and former MLA Siveri Soma, in Andhra’s ruling TDP were reportedly killed on September 23 at the Andhra-Odisha border by the Maoists and 4 assassins that helped the Maoists were arrested by the Visakhapatnam police and in compliance has also increased the security for politicians.
