According to the CAG report, 'Departments of the GoUP have failed to ensure submission of Utilisation Certificates (UCs) on grant-in-aid of Rs 97,906.27crore. In many cases, the same recipients continue to receive further grants from the same departments, even while earlier UCs are pending.'
New Delhi: The Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is readying to take legal action against former chief minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) exposed embezzlement of nearly one lakh crore in state’s finances during Yadav’s tenure at the helm.
“The CAG report exposes what we have been claiming for a long time. The Akhilesh Yadav regime was a suction pump which sucked public money from state’s coffers into the pockets of SP leaders. Akhilesh had given the slogan of ‘Kaam Bolta Hai’ in the last elections. Inka kaam to sahi mein bolne laga hai. The BJP government has taken serious note of this and we shall take strictest action possible under the law against the culprits. No one will be spared, not even Akhilesh Yadav if he is found complicit,” UP BJP spokesperson Dr Chandra Mohan told MyNation.
According to the CAG report, “Departments of the GoUP have failed to ensure submission of Utilisation Certificates (UCs) on grant-in-aid of Rs 97,906.27 crore. In many cases, the same recipients continue to receive further grants from the same departments, even while earlier UCs are pending.”
This means that Rs 97,906.27crore of public money cannot be accounted for by various departments during the Yadav’s tenure as chief minister. Not only this, such departments which did not furnish details of their expenditures were again given more money.
The CAG recommended: “The Finance Department should prescribe a time frame within which administrative departments realising grants collect UCs pending for more than the time stipulated in the grants orders and also ensure that till such time, administrative departments release no further grants to defaulting grantees.”
