Sitting MP from Chevella, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy resigned on Tuesday with a three-page letter addressed to Telangana's caretaker chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Hyderabad: Two weeks prior to the Telangana Legislative Assembly elections, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy submitted a three-page resignation letter to caretaker chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao. Sitting MP Reddy was a senior member of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). He also said that he would be resigning from the Lok Sabha.
In the letter to the chief minister, Reddy stated that he was very hopeful of the way the party had started out. The cause of creating Telangana in 2013 was a noble one and it was required to present the injustices faced by the Telangana people in Andhra Pradesh. He spoke about his confidence in Chandrasekhar Rao and his son KT Rama Rao, who had invited him to join the party. It was the people-centrism and ideologies that attracted him TRS in 2013, he said.
Reddy also spoke about the work done by him for the party, including the tours he had taken representing the people in the Parliament. He then went on to talk about how in the past two years he has not felt the same enthusiasm that he had seen in the initial days. He said that he now feels the party has become "distant" from the people and as a government, it was "becoming inaccessible" to the common man.
Reddy said that he feels powerless and cannot "speak out" anymore and thus after much thought, he has decided to resign from the Lok Sabha too. In his letter, he stated that he was there for the party when the party required him, but he can no longer do so. He feels forced into taking such a decision and is leaving the party with a heavy heart. He added that the party enjoys significant goodwill in social circles.
Reddy spoke about his disappointment in regards to appointing individuals, who have been against the formation of Telangana and the party’s ideologies, as key members in the Cabinet while older members like him (Reddy) were pushed back.
Before joining politics, Reddy was an engineer by profession and a software entrepreneur. He is one of the richest politicians with a total asset worth of Rs 528,06,05,210 and it is suggested that he may join Congress.
