Terrorists had abducted special police officer Mudasir Ahmad Lone at gunpoint in south Kashmir; his mother says he was about to quit the job of policing and announce the decision after the Friday prayers at the local mosque publicly

The family of the Jammu and Kashmir special police officer kidnapped by terrorists recently has appealed to the abductors to forgive their son and allow him to return to his family.

Three militants on Friday evening had entered SPO Mudasir Ahmad Lone’s house in the Chankatar village of Tral area and kidnapped him.

In an emotional appeal that has gone viral on social networking sites, the mother of the SPO surrounded by her three daughters says, “He is my only son among three daughters. Mudasir had to come back home, quit his job and declare it this Friday in the mosque. However, he got engaged in some work and didn’t get the time (to make the announcement).”

The cop’s mother appealed to the terrorists to have mercy on her and her daughters and set Mudassir free for Allah’s sake. “You also are my children. I request you to kindly set him free and he will quit the job and apologise for all his mistakes,” she said.

The incident brings back memories of the killing of Jammu and Kashmir police constable, who was found dead after he was abducted by terrorists from his home in Kulgam. Mohammad Saleem Shah, who was on a leave, belonged to Mutalhama area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir. Shah was undergoing a training in Kathua.

Meanwhile, SP Awantipora Mohammad Zahid Malik said that the SPO was missing since the previous night and that the police had launched a massive search operation to trace him.

Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir SP Vaid on Saturday said that the police would deal with those abducting personnel from the security forces even as he said that policemen should take precautions to avoid such incidents.

“We just received information about the SPO’s abduction. We are verifying it. His family perhaps said that the SPO had gone to his relatives’. Still we are verifying it,” the DGP said on the sidelines of a passing out parade function organised by BSF in Humhama.
