Sabarimala tantri said that he would meet the Kerala government representatives only after knowing the government’s decision on filing a review plea against the verdict.

Thiruvananthapuram: Sabarimala tantri (temple priest) Kandararu Mohanaru has refused to meet Kerala government representatives on Monday to settle the issue. Supreme Court, in its landmark judgment on September 28, put an end to centuries-old tradition banning women of menstruating age from entering Kerala's most famous temple Sabarimala.

Sabarimala tantri said that he would meet the government representatives only after knowing the chief minister’s decision on filing a review plea against the verdict.

The chief minister was assumed to meet tantri-family and members of Panthalam royal family on Monday. However, tantris and royal family members have not shown any interest to meet the chief minister.

They have informed their dissatisfaction and dislike in the issue to the Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran. The government is trying to implement the Supreme Court verdict without any clashes.

Kerala’s Deputy General of Police Loknath Behra informed that 500 women police officers would be deployed in Sabarimala following the Supreme Court verdict. Selected women officers will be given the special training to undertake various duties. The major challenge before the police is crowd management in the upcoming season.

Earlier the chief minister opined that the Devaswom Board president's stand on review petition was wrong.  Vijayan said, "Devaswom Board president A Padmakumar's statement claiming that review petition would be filed was fake news, and it triggered a lot of misunderstanding among people. Women in his house may not go to Sabarimala and that is his personal choice."
