This may be the first incident in the history of churches where nuns are holding a public protest, that too against a Bishop
Kochi: Five nuns from a convent in Kottayam Kuravilangadu seminary are currently holding a protest in front of Kochi High Court against Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulackal, who is accused of raping a nun multiple times between 2014 and 2016.
As nuns are protesting for justice in Kochi, Franco is celebrating the Jalandhar Missionaries Of Jesus’ Silver Jubilee.
The photos of the accused Bishop cutting cake in the silver jubilee function attended by nuns including Missionaries of Jesus Mother General Rajeena is going viral on social media.
This may be the first incident in the history of churches where nuns are making a public protest, that too against a Bishop.
The victim’s family members are also taking part in the protest, being held under the aegis of the Joint Christian Council, which is working for the reformation of churches.
Protesting sisters said that the State government and police are not standing with them and they rely only on the court now.
The family of the victim will approach the High Court on Monday claiming that attempts have been made to subvert the investigation.
Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM) has also made U-turn against the bishop.
Meanwhile, there are reports that Bishop Franco is planning to participate in the synod of bishops in Rome. However, DYSP K Subhash said that the Bishop could not leave the country since the investigation is ongoing.
The family members of the victim have also said that the Bishop may leave the country using his high influence. KCYM Ernakulam Angamaly diocese committee has demanded the arrest of Bishop Franco.
