Alappuzha: A conflict arose in Alappuzha beach, Kerala, in connection with the 'punch Modi' challenge organised jointly by AISF (All India Students Federation) and AIYF(All India Youth Federation). The conflict was settled when the police arrested both the party members.
'Punch Modi' challenge was a protest against the Union government at Alappuzha beach, conducted by the AISF district committee on Sunday. AISF leaders said that the protest had been held against the Centre’s inefficiency to tackle the rising fuel prices. As the protest began, AISF activists hit a punching bag with the face of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Yuva Morcha leaders first hit the streets and poured milk on Modi’s photograph. District president S Sajan inaugurated the protest held by Yuva Morcha. It was led by district general secretary Pramod Karakkad. The protest also saw the participation of BJP district cell co-ordinator R Unnikrishnan, G Vinod Kumar, R Kannan Viswavijayapal, Ranjith, Aaromal, Suraj, Varun, G Mohanan, Suneesh and Sumith. Modi's supporters and those involved in the punch Modi challenge were at loggerheads, which turned into a nasty fight. Police swung into action. S Sajan, district president of Yuva Morcha and Vinod Kumar, BJP president of Alappuzha assembly were held in preventive detention.
Later, AISF-AIYF activists had started the march from the area near PWD rest house and the police stopped them before entering the beach. The activists began punching Modi’s photograph following this. This ended in a clash between the activists and the Kerala police. A protest meeting was organised following this and was presided over by AISF district secretary Anu Sivan. CA Arun Kumar, M Kannan, V M Hariharan and Aslaf Parekkadan spoke at the event.
Yuva Morcha leaders were later let off after arresting AIYF leaders.
