Kottayam: The investigation team will file a request in the court seeking to subject Franco Mulakkal to a lie detector test since Kerala police suspect that he is lying about several questions. The police will file a plea in the court at 2:30 PM on Monday. Meanwhile, Mulakkal, accused of rape by Kerala nun is remanded to judicial custody till October 6 by Pala magistrate court, Kottayam.
Mulakkal has not yet admitted the crime completely. He has denied all allegations in the interrogation led by Kottayam SP Hari Shankar and investigation officer K Subhash. The lie detector test cannot be conducted unilaterally. The police need permission of the accused to conduct the lie detector test.
The police have informed that more arrests are likely to occur in connection with the case. Fr James Erthayil and Missionaries of Jesus PRO, sister MJ Amala, will be made accused in the case for allegedly trying to influence the witness and disgracing the victim by revealing her photographs. The district police chief has directed to complete the case within one week.
The high court has informed that it is not necessary to hand over the investigation against Franco Mulakkal to the CBI. The high court has clarified that the police should be able to handle the case independently. The court has handled all the public interest litigations filed in connection with the case. The court also asked whether there is any other intention behind the petitions.
The police have completed a medical check-up and are collecting evidence. The investigation team will also submit a plea in the court seeking permission to subject the Bishop to lie detector test. The police will even hand over the result of sexual potency test of the Bishop.
