Pinarayi Vijayan handed over the complaint to revenue minister through additional chief secretary following the request made by Kerala Arts Lovers Association
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government started procedures to expropriate excess area of land owned by famous personalities involved in the Malayalam film industry. This step is taken after Kerala Arts Lovers Association (KALA) submitted a request to the chief minister to take action against several celebrities.
Pinarayi Vijayan handed over the complaint to the revenue minister through additional chief secretary. Land revenue commissioner has already taken steps to investigate this matter. District collector and tahsildars have instructed concerned officers to collect land details of people involved in the film field.

The tahsildars would have to work with the sub-registrar and village officers to collect data. This would have to be passed on to the district collectors, following which action would be initiated.
Land board authorities said that the directors should abide by the law. The board authorities also said that if a person owns more than 15 acres of land, he or she would be asked to give it back to government.
The KALA state coordinator UK Damodaran stated that it is the duty of the government to provide land to landless people of the state.
In the petition submitted by UK Damodaran in August 2017, it was claimed that the huge remuneration received by the actors and directors was that of art lovers and was being spent for real estate business and drug mafia
