Kannur: The final tests for licensing of Kannur international airport for international flights was completed on Thursday. The trial run of Air India Express’ 189-seater Boeing 738 aircraft took place this morning.
The flight, which started from Thiruvananthapuram at 9:45 am and touched down at Kannur international airport at 11.38 am. The flight landed as per Instrument Approach Procedure prepared by the Airport Authority using calibration flight. What Kannur airport has to get is the permission to operate in all-weather conditions.
The inspection held by the director general of civil aviation for issuing the license has been completed. Examination of air traffic station arrangements was done on Wednesday. KIAL Managing Director V. Thulasidas received flight crew including Captain A Sreenivasan Rao and Captain Aravind Kumar.
The State government is planning to conduct the inauguration of the airport late October once the permission is obtained. The international flight will start flying from Kannur from November 1.
Airport fire tender units gave the aircraft water salute as it moved towards the apron. The State already has airports at Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kozhikode.
