Srinagar: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer was killed in a terrorist attack Nowgam on the outskirts of Srinagar on Friday night.
Sources said the assistant sub-inspector, identified as Rajesh Kumar, was attacked by the terrorist group at Wagoora around 1 AM. The officer was hit by a grenade which resulted in serious injuries.
He was rushed to the nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Immediately after the attack, the entire area was cordoned off. Jammu and Kashmir police have also registered an FIR and a probe has been launched in this regard.
The security agencies are connecting the dots and of this attack with fresh threats from terror outfit Jaish E Mohammed. The militant group has recently claimed to have carried out three sniper attacks on security forces in the valley.
On Friday, in another terror attack, an Army jawan was killed and two militants gunned down in an encounter in the Malganipora area of Sopore in Baramulla district.
Last week, three militants were killed in an encounter in Larro area of Kulgam district. Seven civilians were killed after they visited the encounter site and some explosives went off.
