Karunanidhi's response to the medical treatment over the next 24 hours will determine the prognosis, said the statement released by the hospital.

DMK Chief M Karunanidhi's health has deteriorated, stated the latest report from Kauvery Hospital in Chennai.

Though it was said that his health was improving, his response to the treatment allegedly slowed down on Sunday late night (5 August). Currently, he is being monitored closely by the doctors.

His (Karunanidhi's) response to the medical treatment over the next 24 hours will determine the prognosis, said the statement released by the hospital.

Karunanidhi was admitted to the Kauvery hospital in Alwarpet, Chennai, on July 28 following a drop in blood pressure. Karunanidhi is under active medical support since then.

Karunanidhi's son and DMK Working President MK Stalin had asked the party cadres to go back from the hospital as there was an improvement in the health condition of Kalaignar on 30 July.

Various leaders including President Ram Nath Kovind visited Karunanidhi in hospital. He was also visited by AICC President Rahul Gandhi, JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda and other leaders. Even stars of Tamil film industry, Kamal Haasan, Rajnikanth, Vijay and Ajith visited the hospital and spoke to Stalin.

The decline in Karunanidhi's health has brought his supporters back to hospital premises. Thousands of people are seen thronging Kauvery Hospital and praying for Kalaignar's recovery.
