Thiruvananthapuram: 96-year-old Karthyayani Amma has set a new record with Kerala state literacy mission’s results of the Class 4-equivalent examination. The 96-year-old student has scored 98 out of 100 in the exams.
Karthyayani Amma has grabbed the headlines for her perseverance and hard work despite her old age. She is looking forward to taking the SSLC examination (Class 10 board exams).

The senior citizen got the opportunity to study at this age, thanks to the scheme introduced by the district literacy mission. A teacher has been appointed specially for Karthiyayani Amma because of her declining health. The teacher would regularly come to Amma's house five days a week.
Earlier, the photograph of Karthyayani Amma writing the exam had gone viral on social media. Over 45,000 senior citizens from across Kerala appeared for the literacy mission's test this year and she was the oldest among the candidates who cleared the literacy examinations.
Karthyayani Amma will be honoured by the Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday for her phenomenal achievement. Her grandchildren are studying in Class 5 and Class 9. She is delighted to discuss her course material with the children of her second generation.
