Bengaluru: On Wednesday, a 26-year-old daily-wage worker died as a mound of mud collapsed on him during drain-repair work that was being carried out in Bengaluru's Rajarajeshwari Nagar. The victim has been identified as Madivalappa (26) from Karnataka's Kalaburagi district. Madivalappa, along with five others were at work when part of the mound collapsed. The five managed to escape from the disaster while Madivalappa was stuck.
Five hours later, his body was extracted from the soil by Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services personnel. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) workers were carrying out excavation work in a stormwater drain (SWD) to connect an underground sewage water pipe.
