Karnataka: Two Congress leaders issued non-bailable warrant in iron ore export case

Congress MLAs Anand Singh and B Nagendra failed to appear before court despite several notices issued to them with regard to illicit iron ore export from Belekeri port in Karnataka.

Bengaluru: Non-bailable warrants have been issued against two Congress leaders, Anand Singh and Nagendra, in connection with illicit iron ore export from Belekeri port.

Anand Sigh is an MLA representing Vijayanagar constituency and legislator B Nagendra represents Ballari Rural constituency.

The two MLAs failed to attend court hearings despite repeated summons sent to them. Following this, the Special Court judge BV Patil issued a non-bailable warrant against Anand Singh and Nagendra.

However, this is not the first time that the MLAs have been issued a non-bailable warrant. In 2014, they were issued a non-bailable warrant and a chargesheet was filed against the, but they were released in no time.

Both Anand Singh and Nagendra were BJP candidates and jumped to Congress just before Assembly elections were announced.

In the drama that unfolded in Parliament when the the former chief minister had to prove a majority to form a government after the Karnataka Assembly election, Anand Singh went missing until the last moment and entered the Assembly just before the vote. There were allegations that he was kidnapped and kept in an undisclosed location.

During Assembly elections held in May 2018, Anand Singh had declared more than Rs 117 crore in assets and Rs 27 crore in liability.
