Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has been exercising caution for every decision regarding State affairs. Most of the time he seeks divine intervention.
Kumaraswamy is accused of temple hopping when the State is facing severe condition of floods and deaths due to heavy rains.
Three deaths have been reported from Kalaburgi in north Karnataka. Various districts including Madikeri, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga and north Karnataka have been inundated.
Road connectivity to many places in these districts have been cut off. Still, the chief minister is seen busy visiting temples and not taking any steps to save people from floods.
Accordingly, Kumaraswamy has visited 42 temples in 84 days after becoming chief minister.
From the time and day of taking oath to entering the his office, Kumaraswamy and his elder brother HD Revanna have been visiting astrologers and temples.
Due to heavy downpour in north Kerala, Kabini reservoir in Karnataka has received excess water and had to be released as the Krishnaraja Sagara (KRS) dam was overflowing.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) also has alerted the people of Karnataka that heavy rains are expected for few more days in the State. Fishermen have been asked not to venture into the Arabian Sea.
Even on August 12, when the people of Karnataka were worried about saving themselves from the floods, Kumaraswamy along with this family including his father, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda to Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada district. The district has been receiving heavy rains for five days now. Despite the condition there, Kumaraswamy visited the temple and returned to Bengaluru and did not bother about visiting the flood-affected areas.
On August 14, Kumaraswamy, with his family, visited Deveshwara Temple, Haradanahalli village in Hassan. This is said to be a ritual Deve Gowda’s family is performing for several decades on the first Monday of Shravana month, every year.
It can also be noted that when the offer was made to make Kumaraswamy the chief minister by the Congress (after any party failed to get majority in the Assembly elections held in the state on May 12), it was said that the Deve Gowda's family had offered special worship at Kalabhairaveshwara Temple on nine full moon days, before the elections.
Considering all this, it looks like Kumaraswamy believes in divine intervention to solve the problems more than acting to save the people of the State, who elected him to power.
Or is he just worried about keeping himself in power and not the people of the State?
