Delhi Police claimed that they had reached the spot where a car was being ransacked by a bunch of Kanwariyas within 10 minutes of receiving the distress call, but found neither any Kanwariya nor the car owner
New Delhi: Denying the inaction of Delhi Police apparent in the video showing a bunch of Kanwariyas damaging a Hyundai i10 car that MyNation had published on Tuesday, which went viral on social media, the department on Wednesday gave a different account of the happenings. On August 7, according to sources in Delhi Police, a PCR call was received at 5.38 PM that a car had hit a Kanwariya near the metro station of Moti Nagar and that Kanwariyas were damaging the vehicle.
The sources claimed that on receiving the call, inspector (investigation) Moti Nagar, who was present in the area, rushed to the spot. At 5.48 PM, the inspector reached the spot followed by the additional DCP (west district), ACP (Punjabi Bagh) and SHO (Moti Nagar). In the meantime, four PCR vans reached the spot too.
Upon reaching the spot, the inspector apparently found a car damaged but no gathering of Kanwariyas. He tried to search for the occupant(s) of the car and came to know that the car was being driven by a girl accompanied by a boy.

The police recovered CCTV footage of the day from a shop nearby.
During the inquiry by ACP (Punjabi Bagh), it turned out that one of the Kanwariyas had got 'pushed' by the vehicle, which resulted in heated arguments between the Kanwariyas assembled in the area and the occupants of the car.
Furthermore, it also came to the notice of the police that one of the Kanwariyas was slapped by the occupants of the car, which further agitated them and they started damaging the car.
The occupants of the car immediately left the spot and later refused to give any complaint in writing. However, the police are investigating the matter based on the CCTV footage available and statements of eyewitnesses. "The inquiry is under progress," a source in the police said.
