Chennai: It's almost a year since actor-politician Kamal Haasan launched his party Makkal Needhi Maiam. The actor has been touring the lengths and breadths of the state ever since, and now is all set to contest the 40 seats for Lok Sabha polls (Tamil Nadu, Puducherry included).
Recently, Kamal Haasan said that he is not interested in aligning with any corrupt party and that his focus is Tamil Nadu. He even branded AIADMK as a corrupt party and ruled out an alliance with the DMK, while simultaneously expressing interest in aligning with the Congress (minus the DMK).
In an interview with the Times of India, Kamal Haasan has made the U-turn and said that his party would contest the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections alone. With DMK, Congress joining hands in the Mahagathbandhan, many political analysts believe that Kamal Haasan was left alone.
The actor has also said that the groundwork has begun, right from selecting candidates to on-field campaigns. Kamal Haasan said that he cannot "carry the burden of other political parties".
