Investigators of Delhi’s anti-terror wing have also given a list of 10 to 15 outsiders who allegedly raised anti-national slogans in the university
New Delhi: After almost three years, the Delhi police have at last managed to finalised a draft charge sheet in the Jawaharlal Nehru University sedition case.
The charge sheet has named former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya as the main accused. The charge sheet has also named Shehla Rashid and other 32 students.
The students were accused of raising “anti-national slogans” during an event commemorating the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru on the campus on February 9, 2016.
Cops investigating the case said that the delay in forensic report resulted in a further delay in filing of the charge sheet. According to reports, the Delhi Police have very less witnesses in the case.
The 100-page charge sheet, according to a police official, has more than three forensic reports, technical evidence like message details and statements. The cops will file the charge sheet this week only in the Patiala House Court.
Investigators of Delhi’s anti-terror wing have also given a list of 10 to 15 outsiders who allegedly raised anti-national slogans in the university.
"We have established that students from different universities like Aligarh Muslim University, Jamia Millia Islamia etc were among those who raised anti-national slogans in JNU. They visited the campus on that day. These students hailed from Kashmir," the police official said.
Though Rashid has been named in the charge sheet, police are looking for some concrete evidence against her.
After videos from February 9 surfaced online, a high-level inquiry was conducted. Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya were arrested on the charges of sedition shortly after.
However, they were granted bail by a Delhi court.
