JNU scholar at ICSSR dies trying rock climbing

Praveen Tiwari, who hails from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, had recently joined JNU as a research assistant at the ICSSR. He was trying rock climbing without ropes or experience in the adventure sport.

New Delhi: A JNU scholar died while trying to do rock climbing in Delhi on Sunday. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Praveen Tiwari living in room no. 102 of the old wing of Brahmaputra hostel, JNU.

The cops claim that Tiwari was wearing no safety gear and that he had no prior experience of rock climbing.

Tiwari, who hails from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, had recently joined JNU as a research assistant at the ICSSR.

Tiwari was unmarried. "He was doing rock climbing inside JNU without ropes. He slipped and fell on the ground, dying in the process. He was declared brought dead at the hospital where he was rushed.

The police do not suspect a foul play. They said as Tiwari's friend was making a video of his rock climbing effort. "The video has captured the incident," a police official said.

Tiwari's family has been informed and the mandatory post mortem conducted. Statement of the friend who shot the video has been recorded by the police.
