Terrorists on Thursday night attacked a post of Jammu Kashmir police at the house of a former Congress leader in Bon Bazar area of Shopian district and absconded with four service rifles
Armed terrorists attacked a police post guarding a former Congress leader’s house in south Kashmir’s Shopian district and decamped with four rifles.
A top police official told MyNation that around 8:30 pm on Thursday, terrorists barged into Mohammad Shafi Banday's residence in Bon Bazaar locality of Shopian and snatched four Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs) from policemen. No one was injured in the incident. He said that security forces were put on an alert in entire south Kashmir to track down the terrorists, who escaped with rifles.
Over 90 weapons have been reportedly snatched from policemen ever since the unrest began in the Valley following the death of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in July 2016.
Sources in the police department said that terrorists, especially the fresh recruits, face shortage of weapons. This situation has forced them to snatch rifles from policemen and paramilitary forces deployed at various locations.
Nearly 150 people have joined militancy in Kashmir in 2016, and most of them are reportedly from the volatile south Kashmir area.
Meanwhile, Hizbul released a photo of the weapons decamped from the Jammu and Kashmir police.
