Jaguar fighter plane crashes in Uttar Pradesh village; pilot ejects safely

This is the second Jaguar fighter plane to have crashed in a year. A similar incident had occurred in June 2018 where the plane had taken off from the Jamnagar and crashed soon after.

New Delhi: A Jaguar fighter jet crashed into a farm in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar area on Monday. The pilot of the plane managed to eject safely.

According to the officials, the incident took place approximately 300 km from the state capital of Lucknow. The fighter jet took off for a training exercise from Gorakhpur air force base.  

The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained however senior officials suspect some technical glitch. The plane crashed into a farm and burst into flames. Local police have cordoned off the area.

According to the Indian Air Force officials, information about technical snag was received from the pilot minutes before the incident. A court of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate the accident.

This is the second Jaguar plane to have crashed in under a year with a similar incident occurring in June of last year. In that particular incident, a Jaguar plane took off from the Jamnagar air base but crashed soon after. The pilot had managed to eject safely. - with agency input.
