According to the police, the duo had visited Delhi earlier too to procure weapons
The special cell of Delhi Police anti-terror wing arrested two suspected terrorists on Thursday night. The accused have been identified as Parvaiz Rashid Lone and Jamsheed Zahoor Paul from the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. The two are allegedly associated with ISIS sleeper cell in the region and were working under the instructions of Omar Nazir and Aadil Thoker through encrypted messages.
“Both were arrested last night from Jama Masjid bus stop near Red Fort. Two pistols along with 10 cartridges have been recovered from them. They had acquired weapons from Uttar Pradesh and were going back to Jammu and Kashmir,” said PS Kushwah, DCP Special Cell.
According to the police, the duo had visited Delhi earlier too to procure weapons. “This is not the first time when they had come to Delhi. In an earlier visit, they delivered two .32 bore pistols and we are verifying their claims,” added Kushwah.
Parvaiz, a civil engineering student in Uttar Pradesh, lost his younger brother Firdous Lone, a Hizbul Mujahideen operator, during a shootout with security forces in Shopian earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Jamsheed, also an engineering student, has been accused of facilitating stays for other members of the outfit. Kushwah said, “Jamsheed facilitated stay and onward travel of terrorist Abdhullah Basit (arrested by NIA) in Delhi on the direction of Omar Ibn Nazir,” adding that, “These terrorists were using Delhi as a transit point and they have managed to deliver weapons as well.”
