Hyderabad: Karnataka IPS officer Madhukar Shetty died at Continental Hospital in Hyderabad after succumbing to catastrophic illness.
Shetty was earlier said to be suffering from H1N1, but the press release from the hospital has confirmed that he was suffering from thoracic aorta. After consultation and evaluation he underwent Bentall procedure. But after the surgery his condition remained critical and he succumbed to the illness, said Dr Guru N Reddy, Founder, Chairman, Continental Hospitals.
Shetty was admitted to the hospital one week ago. He was a 1999 batch IPS officer and had served at Bengaluru Rural, Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagaluru, before being posted in Hyderabad.
He was serving as deputy director of Sardar Vallabhbai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad since December 2016. He was known as an upright police officer and was compassionate towards the underprivileged.
He had taken strict action against the corrupt and was outspoken about his disappointment with the Lokayukta Santosh Hegde as he had failed to take action against the corrupt.

Currently, the mortal remains are kept at his house in Hyderabad, where trainees, police officers are paying him tributes. His mortal remains will be brought to Bengaluru.
Arrangements have been made for the public and police officers to pay their last respects at Armed Police Training School in Yelahanka.
Later, his mortal remains will be taken to his hometown Kundapur in Udupi district at 11 PM. Last rites will be performed at Yadadi village in Kundapur at 10 AM on Sunday.
