New Delhi: India today registered strong protests over the killing of its soldiers by Pakistan Army's Border Action Team on Saturday during the DGMO-level functional talks and warned Pakistan against indulging in — or abetting — such activities.
“At around 10 AM during the DGMO-level functional talks, the Indian Army expressed concern over the killing of its soldiers in a Pakistani Border Action Team strike in the Sunderbani sector in which three troops from 8 JAKLI unit were killed,” Army headquarters sources said.
India had warned Pakistan on Sunday at the Brigade Commander-level in Poonch.
Sources in the Army said the two terrorists eliminated in the encounter were wearing Indian Army fatigues. They said it was suspected that they belong to Pakistan-backed terrorist groups.
India also alleged that, despite the Indian Army maintaining restraint to honour the ceasefire along the LoC, seven major infiltration attempts have been made by the Pakistan Army since May 30 to push terrorists into India and 23 of the infiltrators were eliminated in the process.
“Reports suggest the concentration of a large number of terrorists in the launch pads desperate to infiltrate before the onset of snow. A stern warning has been conveyed to Pakistan Army to restrain the terrorists operating from its soil,” Army officials said.
“Pakistan Army has been vigorously attempting to send terrorists across the LoC. Since 30 May, seven infiltration bids have been eliminated by the Indian Army in which 23 terrorists have been killed,” the sources in the Army said.
On Monday, armed intruders from Pakistan attacked an Indian Army patrol team along the Line of Control in the Sunderbani Sector where “Three Indian Army soldiers were killed and one suffered injuries in the unprovoked cross-border action by Pakistan. During the ensuing firefight, two intruders were killed, too. The intruders were wearing combat uniform; however, their identity could not be ascertained,” the Army said.
“Pakistan Army has been informed through established communication channels to take over the bodies of the hostile Pakistani nationals,” the officials said.
In the past, Pakistan refused to accept the dead bodies of its own soldiers as it denies having any role in pushing terrorists into India.
