India, US look to strengthen partnership in bilateral trade talks in New Delhi

Annual bilateral trade in goods and services between the United States and India doubled over the last decade, from 58 billion USD in 2007 to 126 billion USD in 2017. Both countries will seek to remain engaged and strengthen commercial partnership in the Indo-US CEO forum

New Delhi: Bilateral talks on trade issues between India and United States will be held at the Indo-US Commercial Dialogue in New Delhi on February 14. The forum was re-formed by the Trump and Modi administrations and has served as a platform to address issues that affect the ease of trade between the two countries and identify areas of collaboration.

Commerce and industry and civil aviation minister, Suresh Prabhu, and Wilbur Ross, US Commerce Secretary will co-chair the India-US Commercial Dialogue.

India and US will share the results of the 2018 commercial dialogue work plan, including the three work streams: standards, business climate and investment and travel and tourism.

Discussions will be held on the 2019 commercial dialogue priorities, identification of new areas of cooperation based on the new CEO Forum recommendations.

The Indo-US forum will also be held on the same day. The co-chairs for the Indo-US CEO Forum are Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and James Taiclet, Chairman, President and CEO of American Tower Corporation. During the India-US CEO forum, working groups will give presentations and recommendations related to their sector.

Trade between India and US has seen immense growth. Annual bilateral trade in goods and services between the two countries have doubled over the last decade, from 58 billion USD in 2007 to 126 billion USD in 2017.  

Despite uncertain global economic conditions, bilateral trade continued to flourish in 2018 with improved bilateral investment flow.

Both countries are resolved to remain engaged and take measures for further enhancement of bilateral trade.

India will US will seek to use the common values, ideas and democratic systems between the two countries to complement trade and strengthen the commercial partnership.
