Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy broke into tears during a celebratory ceremony in Bengaluru’s Seshadripuram.
Kumaraswamy said that while many of his supporters are happy, he is not since his party did not get the mandate of the people. During the speech, he said, "I am swallowing my pain like a Vishakantha."
He further said that while he wanted to finish his father Deve Gowda's unfinished agenda of helping farmers, the poor and the downtrodden, he did not receive the support of the people to bring these dreams to fruition.
He has reportedly said that he will resign if he is pressured by coalition partner Congress.
The Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) joined hands to form an alliance after none of the parties won a single majority at the Karnataka elections. Janata Dal (Secular) Karnataka chief HD Kumaraswamy took oath as the chief minister on May 23.
Times of India reported that the cause for Kumaraswamy’s emotional speech was “Kumaraswamy is not my CM” statements in social media. Kumaraswamy had earlier said that he is not the people's CM since Karnataka's voters did not bring him into power.
