On Friday, the Election Commission sent notice to caretaker irrigation minister of Telangana Harish Rao for using harsh language during his election campaign, based on the report filed by Pratap Reddy.

Hyderabad: The complaint against Telangana's caretaker irrigation minister Harish Rao was filed by Vanteru Pratap Reddy, a likely candidate of Congress from Gajwel. The Election Commission on Friday sent a notice to Rao for using "unparliamentary words" during his election campaign. He has been asked to give an explanation, within two days, for the incident, which has been recorded on video.

Rajat Kumar, Telangana Chief Electoral Officer, in his address to media, stated that the issue was released after the documented evidence was presented. In the past four days, there have been eight serious complaints that were recorded. He also stated that many political leaders had turned aggressive during the campaign. In his statement, he also appealed to the political leaders to abide by the Model Code of Conduct. Offenders of the same could be booked with criminal charges.

Kumar said that the Election Commission has marked over 10,000 polling booths as critical arenas for malpractices.

Pratap Reddy is contesting against caretaker chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who is also Harish’s uncle. While the exact content of the complaint registered was not stated, it is suggested that Rao’s remark on “cutting off” TDP leader Revuri Prakash Reddy sparked the unrest.
