On Annakoot festival, devotees of Lord Krishna offer a mountain of food to him, representing the Govardhan hill
New Delhi: Govardhan Puja, also called Annakut or Annakoot is being celebrated today (November 8) all over the country. This Hindu festival is dedicated to Lord Krishna as devotees offer Annakoot or ‘a mountain of food’ to Lord Krishna as a mark of gratitude.
The Annakoot festival occurs on the first lunar day of Shukla Paksha in the Hindu calendar month of Kartik, which is the fourth day of Diwali.
According to the Bhagavata Puran, Lord Krishna had lifted the Govardhan hill to provide the villagers of Vrindavan shelter from torrential rains. Devotees offer a mountain of food, metaphorically representing the Govardhan Hill, to Lord Krishna as a ritual remembrance.

Pratipada Tithi starts at 9:31 pm on November 7, 2018, and ends at 9:07 pm the next day.
Govardhan Puja Pratahkal Muhurat is between 6:42 am to 8:51 am, that is, a total duration of 2 hours and 9 minutes.
Govardhan Puja Sayankal Muhurat is between 3:18 pm to 5:27 pm, also, a total duration of 2 hours and 9 minutes.
