A gas leak in a steel factory has resulted in the death of at least six people in Andhra Pradesh. The incident occurred at Tadipatri, Anantapur, in Andhra Pradesh. Five people are severely injured and are being treated at a nearby hospital, according to reports.

The steel plant is owned by Brazilian company Gerdau. Two workers reportedly died on the spot and four others breathed their last in the hospital. Five more are battling for their lives.

The deceased have been identified as B Ranganath, 21, K Manoj Kumar, 24, U Gangadhar, 37, SA Wasim Basha, 39, K Shiva Maddileti alias Lingaiah, 26 and Guruvaiah, 40. The accident is said to have occurred at 5.30 PM today (12 July).

The Gerdau is the leading producer of steel, which is exported to the Americal sub-continent. This plant has a capacity of manufacturing 3,00,000 tonnes of steel production per year.
