New Delhi: Fuel prices have reached an all-time high and for the first time ever, there is a marginal gap between the prices of petrol and diesel.
Fuel prices have been on a steady rise since mid-August shortly after the record devaluation in the Indian rupee against the US dollar.
According to the latest price hike, petrol will be sold at Rs 78.84 per litre and diesel at Rs 70.76 per litre in Delhi.
The prices have been hiked by Rs 0.16 per litre for petrol and Rs 0.34 per litre for diesel in the national capital, making it the steepest hike so far in 2018.

— ANI (@ANI)In Mumbai, petrol prices have shot up to Rs 86.25 per litre (highest for any metro city) and diesel prices have increased by Rs to Rs 75.12 per litre.
The Opposition has strengthened its attack on the Modi government over the hike in fuel prices.
The revised rates are effective from 6 am on September 3, 2018. Delhi has the cheapest fuel among other metros owing to a lower VAT.
