Final rites of Sharath Koppu, Indian student shot in the US, performed today

Speaking to My Nation, Sharath's uncle Shivudu, trying hard to hold back his tears, said, 'I am not in a position to speak anything else now, as we are yet to come to terms with what has happened.'

The final rites of Indian student Sharath Koppu, who was shot dead in the US, was held at his native place at Warrangal in Telangana today.

Sharath's body arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and was taken to Hyderabad last night (11 July). At the Hyderabad airport, Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya also paid homage to Sharath's body.

The family just completed the final rites of Sharath and are  still in disbelief . Speaking to My Nation, Sharath's uncle Shivudu said, 'We are just coming out after cremating the body. A case in this regard has been filed, but I have no idea who has done it or about any further action. I am not in a position to speak anything else now, as we are yet to come to terms with what has happened,' he said, fighting back his tears.

According to authorities in Kansas, Koppu, 25, hailing from Telangana, was fatally shot during a suspected incident of robbery at a restaurant where he worked. He died shortly after being taken to the hospital.

Sharath, an Indian student from Telangana was shot dead at a restaurant at J's Fish and Chicken Market in the United States on 6 July. Victim Sharath Koppu studied at the University of Missouri, in Kansas City and worked part time at the restaurant.

Kansas City police announced a USD 10,000 reward for information leading to the suspect and released a brief video of the suspect inside the restaurant, moments before shooting.

After completing his engineering, he was working as a software engineer in a company in Hyderabad. He had enrolled in the University of Missouri and moved to the US, in February.

The video of gunmen rushing into the restaurant shooting at Sharath has been captured by the CCTV, and was released by the Kansas City police.
