So far, Bilhore has filled up over 500 potholes in Mumbai. Yesterday (29 July), he filled up the 556th pothole.
A father has taken up the responsibility of filling up potholes in Mumbai after losing his son to a bike accident caused by one such gaping hole in local governance two years ago.
Prakash, a 16-year-old boy, had died on 28 July 2015, after his bike fell into a deep pothole on rainwater clogged Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) in Mumbai.
The boy’s father Dadarao Bilhore did not want other motorists to fall victim to poor roads in the city. Instead of waiting for the civic authorities to act on the crumbling roads, he took it upon himself to eliminate potholes.
So far, Bilhore has filled up over 500 potholes in Mumbai. Yesterday (29 July), he filled up the 556th pothole.
Bilhore said he would keep working till India becomes pothole-free. He urged other citizens of the country to join him in making the roads better.
"If people start filling the potholes, they will be inspired to take up the work and solve the problem,” Bilhore said.
In Mumbai, around six persons have lost their lives due to potholes in this monsoon season. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena workers, earlier in the month, protested against the chronic issue of pothole-related deaths in the State.
