New Delhi: Accounts of some Facebook users in India were hacked on Thursday and messages seeking money from the people in their friend list were sent from FB chat messenger.

Moreover, people got notifications requesting change of their FB password on their WhatsApp.

The incident happened just few days after the social networking service company reported a major security breach in which 50 million user accounts were accessed by unknown attackers.

The attackers gained the ability to “seize control” of those user accounts, Facebook said, by stealing digital keys the company uses to keep users logged in. They could do so by exploiting three distinct bugs in Facebook’s code.

Facebook said Wednesday it is in touch with the Indian government "to share preliminary information" pertaining to a recent breach.

"We are still working through the details of impacted users in India and will release more information once we have concluded our investigations,” a Facebook spokesperson said

The IT ministry, terming the incident as a serious issue, said that they are looking into the matter and would seek an explanation from the company.

Facebook, which has over 200 million users in India, counts the country among its largest userbases globally.
