New Delhi: The Election Commission of India is all set to announce the dates of Assembly elections in four states — Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram on Saturday.
Sources added that the dates in Telangana may also be announced on Saturday. The Election Commission is expected to make the announcement in a press conference at 12.30 pm.
According to the model code of conduct, the dates will be made public as soon as election commissioner OP Rawat makes the circular public.
The term of the 50-member Assembly in Mizoram ends on December 15, while that of Chhattisgarh’s 90-member house ends on January 5, 2019. The tenure of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, with 230 members, expires on January 7, 2019. The term of the 200-member Rajasthan House expires on January 20, 2019.
Since 2008, the Congress has been ruling Mizoram. Lal Thanhawala was elected as the chief minister after the Congress won the 2013 Assembly election, securing 34 seats in the 50-member House.
The BJP is in power in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. In Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje is the chief minister with 160 seats in the 200-member House.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan is the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, with 166 seats in the House. The BJP won the Chhattisgarh polls in 2013, securing 49 seats in the 91-member House. The Congress came a close second with 39 seats. Raman Singh was elected chief minister.

BJP chief Amit Shah is expected to meet marginalised sections and farmers in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. Shah is scheduled to launch the BJP's mass contact campaign in the crucial Malwa-Nimad region of Madhya Pradesh to woo voters, especially traders, tribals and farmers.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi is also slated to visit the state for a day. He is expected to meet the heads of tribal organisations and address a public meeting.
