All eyes are on Tamil Nadu after Union minister Piyush Goyal went to the state only to announce a 'mega alliance' with the AIADMK and the PMK. However, the DMDK seems to have been left behind in the alliance talks

Chennai: A day after the 'mega alliance' of AIADMK, BJP and the PMK was announced in the state of Tamil Nadu, much noise was created by the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) with claims that the BJP was trying to pull them into the alliance. However, more than 24 hours have gone by since the announcement of the mega alliance with the AIADMK, yet the DMDK remains mum.

BJP spokesperson KT Raghavan spoke to MyNation and was certain that soon DMDK will join hands in the alliance. Raghavan stated, "Piyush Goyal met the DMDK chief Captain Vijayakanth and the alliance talks are still on." Raghavan went on to say that this alliance has only made it difficult for the opposition, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Raghavan said, "The DMK is rattled with this alliance as they didn't expect that it would actually take place."

Although MyNation tried to contact AIADMK and the DMDK several times, they were unavailable for comment. This is most likely because of on-going meetings and discussions regarding the alliance. DMDK secretary L K Sudhish held a meeting with senior leaders of the party and was unavailable for a comment. The party is expected to announce its stand soon.

The meeting took place just a day after Union minister Piyush Goyal met with the DMDK Chief Captain Vijayakanth on Tuesday. While addressing the media on Tuesday, Piyush Goyal had said that he met the DMDK chief to enquire about his health. Goyal also said that he conveyed the wishes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.

DMDK leader Vijayakanth's wife Premalatha had earlier announced that the actor-turned politician would soon announce alliance and "it would be a winning one". She had even gone on to say that national party and a prominent Tamil Nadu party have been in talks, hinting at AIADMK as the two parties had been negotiating for a while.

While the DMDK's alliance talks came in much earlier than other parties, there is a deafening silence after the announcement of the 'mega alliance' in the state of Tamil Nadu. While the PMK has settled for seven seats, the BJP has bagged five seats. One can only wonder if there is a storm regarding the number of seats that the two parties (AIADMK and the DMDK) are having difficulty in agreeing upon, in the upcoming elections.
