Bakshi had nullified the DUSU election in which Rohan Awana had won with a handsome margin. Bakshi allegedly told Awana that he wouldn't allow 'Jat-Gujjarisation' and 'saffronisation' of the college campus; there is also two serious allegations of misappropriation of funds against him
New Delhi: The Dyal Singh College governing body on Friday ordered the sealing of the office of principal Prof IS Bakshi who is facing several charges including one of communalism and a few of corruption. The decision was taken during the GB meeting held on Friday as Bakshi was "not cooperating" in the inquiry against him, sources in the college said.
It may be recalled that the governing body (GB) of Dyal Singh College had asked Bakshi to go on an indefinite leave in the wake of serious charges of communalisation and corruption against him in the last GB meeting on September 24. However, defying the order, sources said, Bakshi continued to attend the college.
As the principal's office is sealed, he will be out of bounds from the college until the inquiry is completed. Now, Bakshi can enter the college premises only after a written information to the convenor of the inquiry committee OP Malik, retired IPS and former DGP.
Meanwhile, Bakshi's authority as a bank signatory for the college has been suspended too. Officiating principal Dr Pawan Kumar Sharma has been given the signatory power.
It may be recalled that Bakshi had nullified the DUSU election in which Rohan Awana had won with a handsome margin. Bakshi summoned Awana and allegedly told him that he wouldn't allow "Jat-Gujjarisation" and "saffronisation" of the college campus. In his statement before the governing body members, Awana alleged that Bakshi had also threatened him to rustication.
Awana, who had polled 760 votes, was elected as president of Dyal Singh College Students' Union. His nearest rival candidate Yuvraj Rana had garnered 443 votes.
The GB had, sources said, received various other allegations by different staff members, students and workers of the college against Bakshi. The allegations include receiving kickbacks from a builder and disqualifying a candidate who had emerged a winner by nullifying the post and communalising the atmosphere of the college.
The builder concerned had been questioned for his bills. The GB told him his accounts looked fishy and therefore he would be blacklisted, sources said. Scared, he admitted that some staff members of the college got a "commission" from the amount. His bill was found to be inflated by about Rs 25 lakh. When he agreed to return that amount to the college, Bakshi stopped the building project for which the contractor was working. That building now stands unfinished on the college campus.
Further, Bakshi terminated the services of technical auditor DK Ganguly because the latter had found horrible irregularities in the college's accounts, a source in the college said.
